The Ladies 2s kicked off their season in glorious sunshine at the equally glorious Dean Close. With the addition of a few new faces we were raring to go. I’d love to say that we were calm and collected from the get-go, but sadly this was not the case. For the first 10 minutes, it was all a little bit frantic and I think I can speak for everyone when we probably all just needed to take a breath.
Luckily, we started to settle and had a lot of possession, managing a fair few shots on goal but the Gloucester defence held strong with some amazing clearances on the line. We won some shorts which we didn’t manage to convert (some say my ball is still travelling in the air – hilariously dangerous and wildly off target). After being reminded by Rich of what I was meant to do (soz gals), I found the back of the net, helped by a deflection, 1-0.
Half time came, and in the second half we were significantly improved, especially in our decision making, not allowing Gloucester out of their own half for most of it. Our efforts were finally rewarded when Lucy Moule finished off a superb team goal, a move started from defence, 2-0. We continued to pile on the pressure and won a number of shorts but the Gloucester defence held strong to see out the game and finish with a 2-0 scoreline.
Considering we hadn’t played together as a team until this game, it was a fantastic start to the season, with plenty of positives to take as we move forward.
Player 🏆 – A very close and spread out vote, with nominations going to Lauren, Lucy M, Lucie A, Laura, Hannah P and myself, with Lucie Archer and Lucy Moule getting joint player!
Donkey 🫏 – Nice to know my team backs me 😒I received donkey this week. Tried to call Hannah Redwood off the pitch, shouted quite (very) loudly to discover she was approximately 4m away from me. A real shame as I was very excited about our new donkey outfit, and couldn’t wait to see someone in it – just didn’t expect that person to be me.
Thanks to everyone who came out to support us today, hugely appreciated by everyone playing. Away in Bristol next week, and excited for the season ahead 🖤💛🖤
