Ladies 3s vs Uni of Bristol 3s (written by Katie)
Today the ladies 3s had their first game of the season, travelling to Coombe Dingle to play Uni of Bristol 3s on a wet and dreary SUNDAY for a 5pm push back.
We had a few woozy heads following the first social of the season but with a recovery brunch pre game we were ready to play hockey.
Coach Loz made a very welcomed and appreciated appearance travelling down with us, joining in on the warm up and providing a suitably motivational speech.
After another fab warm up (thanks Rab) we set up to play. Looking at the opposition we knew our fitness was about to be tested, we did not have long on the ball before they were upon us. Possession was somewhat mixed in the first half but we held our own, minded we had travelled on a Sunday we were not prepared to lose. Around the 21st minute Eleanor pressed hard on hit out and came away victorious with the ball, a straight strike from top D led to a beautiful goal in the left corner.
Some cracking saves from Meg and lots of positivity on the pitch and we finished the first half 1-0 up. A team talk at half time confirmed we needed to move the ball on quicker and look out for each other, such as calling when a player is creeping on someone.
We went into the second half with our heads screwed on and ready to act on our half time talk. We played well, possession was up and minus a few questionable shorts and a slightly panicked end to the second half we managed to hold on to the win. Final score was 1-0 and the 3 points are secured.
MOM goes to Meg for some truly spectacular saves, great calling from the back and top tier energy.
DOD goes to myself walking backwards when coach Loz told me to go higher and it took for her to tell me to go forwards for me to work out what she meant.
Side note – At teas we discovered Rab forgot her stick and played with a piece of wood that originated in the late 90s.
