Lansdown L5s vs Cirencester L3s – 19/10/2024

A delayed match report from this resident traffic cone on this match, for which I can only apologise as I’ve left our avid readers waiting desperately to find out which half time sweets we trialed this week.

It was a sunny, if a little cold to begin with, day as we arrived at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester. Fighting through loads of traffic due to ongoing roadworks around the ring road, we were all a little grateful for my accidental mistyping of the meet time making it an hour before and not the usual 45 minutes.

Plenty of warm up time (which is unusual for us L5s) and we were set to go. I’d love to take you all through every bit of the match pass by pass, but to be honest, I’ve completely forgotten – luckily though I did make note of some particular highlights. So it’s short and sweet for me on this occasion.

– The grounds for the Royal Agricultural University can be likened to Hogwarts so we tried to find the Golden Snitch whilst playing on the pitch (to no avail).

– Eva’s goal was absolutely brilliant, a reverse stick strike that dreams are made of!

– The toilets gave Brockworth a run for their money.

– Liz took a ball to the thigh, but still kept picking balls up mid-air, left, right and centre.

– The second Cirencester goal was also one of those goals where everyone just looks around at one another wondering how it actually went in as the player volleyed it mid-air into the goal.

– Clemmie created a new sport in the form of Hockey x Gymnastics, after being taken out, flipping almost upside down, landing on the floor and getting straight back up to dust herself off and go again. All the while her mum was filming her for exam evidence, what a cracking piece of evidence that will be!

– L5s seemed to have taken the recent torrential rain a little too literally as we were often going in for tackles two by two.

– Maom Pinballs seemed like a really good idea at the time, however in a half-time team talk when you’re supposed to be talking, having your jaw welded shut with them was not the best move.

Overall a great performance but alas the performance on the pitch is still not reflecting in points, but it is coming!!!!! Final score was 2-1 to Cirencester, but it was a really well-matched game and I imagine as a spectator, a lovely one to watch.

Nominations for Player of the Match included: Abi, Liz, Eva, Amélie, Clemmie & Livvy

The winner was: Eva

Nominations for Brian the Lion (for sheer grit and determination) included: Clemmie, Amélie, Liz, Agnes, Livvy & Eva.

The winner was: Liz 😊

Now we don’t usually do Donkey in L5s, but on occasion we make an exception…..and this is one of those weeks.

After finishing the match, taking my usual age (we’re talking me being asked to leave the pitch because they’d like to lock up) to check I’ve got everything back in the L5s kitbag (SJ would be proud of me) and doing the obligatory POTM and Brian the Lion only three of us were left – Liz, Abi and myself. Abi commented that her Mum’s iPhone was showing as still at home (little did I know the checking up can happen both ways ;P). Assuming the phone was left at home (as we’ve all done it) we set off for Deer Park to reunite. Turns out the phone was at home along with Abi’s Mum who had got confused with the timings of the match and not left home for pick-up so I had an unexpected but welcomes passenger (who had to slum it a little – sorry) in my Vengabus (IYKYK). So in discussion with Abi we decided to award her Mum Donkey for the week and after she dropped you in it saying you used to play hockey – we reckon you should come play with us Vets one Friday night. 😉
