Back at the lovely sandy Brockworth pitch this week for a tough game against a strong Cheltenham side. The sun was definitely not shining but at least it wasn’t raining. The home pitch was jam packed this week with four home games consisting of the men’s 1s, men’s 3s, ladies 2s and ladies 4s. It was nearly dark by the time we got onto the pitch.
Lansdown started the match off very strong with first push back and even had a few chances on goal. Cheltenham didn’t like this very much but our strong press upfront of India, Sarah, Darcey, Nagyda, Bethany and fresh of out retirement Georgia, held the opposition away from our half. Great runs on and off the ball in the middle from Char, Rosie and Vicky creating lovely triangles which will make coach Lucie very proud.
With a sneaky break from the opposition, our defensive line snapped into action but we unfortunately got a few goals past us. Some amazing saves from newcomer Beth in goal and solid defending from our backline of Grace, Caz and yours truly.
Half time came and we were “a few” goals down (details aren’t important). Some words of wisdom from the haribos and coach Lucie of course, along with some tips and tricks from men’s 1s player Jake Connolly supporting from the sidelines. We went into the second half strong, calm and collected.
Some more hockey was played in the second half. Lansdown had a lot more chances in the second half with some of the defenders entering the unknown territory of the attacking 23 and not sure what to do with themselves. Several good chances at goal but we just couldn’t get it in the back of the net.
Final score was 0-7 but we left the pitch with our heads held high and our bellies full of haribo.
Man of the match this week was very difficult to choose since everyone played so well but it was given to Darcey this week for a strong performance and great skill up and down the sideline.
Lionel went to Char for her determination, great skill and great runs on and off the ball.
