Ladies 3s vs Redland match report written by Smithy…
Ladies 3s took a journey down the motorway to Lockleaze sports centre for our match against Redland. Upon arrival in the changing rooms, we were met with a list of obscure rules including staying off the grass areas and not being allowed to sit in the goals during half time. This was then followed by a haphazard warmup around the cars in the car park as the grass verges were off limits (we needed you Rab).
Once on the pitch and following some wise words from the Chief Amy, we got stuck in. There was some fabulous play and great passing in all areas of the pitch. We had multiple attempts on goal and their goalie made a cracking save which took us to 0-0 at half time. The second half was much feistier, Hannah Redwood took a ball to the throat, Ellie sharpened her elbows and got a warning from the umpire, I took a stick to the face and Katie Charlton couldn’t keep hold of her stick and it kept flying in all directions. Redland put away a goal first but after a few attempts, Eleanor managed to get one back taking us to 1-1. However, we kept on pushing and with some great work from the forwards Tic, Eleanor and Jenny, Eleanor ended up with a one to one with the goalkeeper and in her usual style managed a great flick around the keeper, hitting the backboard as the whistle went for full time, meaning we took the win at 2-1.
Teas was a nice selection of sandwiches and chips as well as some nicely made flapjacks from Danni. Man of the match was jointly awarded to Meg for some truly excellent saves and Tic for some amazing play in and around the ‘D’.
DoD went to me (hence the match report) for a ridiculous comment made at the start of the match (not worth repeating).
Special mention to Emma for coming to watch us play.
