Lansdown Mixed vs Cheltenham Mixed – Cup round 2!
Some very fresh faced Lansdown players arrived at Dean Close today to face Cheltenham in the Mixed cup.
After a strong 3 minute warm up, we were ready to go. From the start it was very even, some great attacks through Bloggy, Emma and our new striker Vicki made us look very threatening.
At some point Cheltenham scored the only way they could get past Darcey today which involved some pushing over the line, but that didn’t keep us down for long. After a beautiful baseline combination with Jake, Luke then found Vicki on the back post who slotted away our first goal. #thatsmygoalkeeper
1-1 at half time and we realised despite the fact that some of us were seeing double we were in the game. James, Luke, Laura, Sam and Leo kept control across the middle, and Vicki even had another chance in mid air on the back post which she unfortunately tried to score with her knuckle. You don’t have the same amount of padding outfield Vicki…
After some more chances and short corners, a reverse from Bloggy came off a defenders foot and found the backboard, at which point we were conveniently reminded by our opposition that reverse hitting isn’t allowed and it shouldn’t count.
Still at 1-1 it was then pretty even for most of the game, Gabs and Tom put in a shift in defence to keep us in it and Hannah chucked some aerials to keep things exciting for the crowd.
With maybe 5 minutes left, Jake had a 1v1 with the keeper and scored a reverse (sweep, so it’s allowed) and we were ahead. Cheltenham had some good chances, including an incredible back post deflection which Darcey kept out with an unreal diving save that left both teams stunned that it wasn’t a goal.
Cheltenham then equalised with a couple minutes left, and we went to shuffles. Shout out to our brave shuffle takers, Emma for scoring hers and Darcey for yet another fantastic save when up against Cheltenham M1s player. Unfortunately, we didn’t put enough away and we lost on shuffles. But huge kudos to everyone for a good team performance and a lot of fun.
Time go to smash the Plate. Thanks all
