M4 vs Evesham & Badsey 2 Win 4-1
MOM: Bill
DOD: Alex
This week we will be mostly winning! (image Jessie from Fast Show saying that).
So, a busy report.
First, senior match debut for Toby welcome aboard! And Tall Tom returned for a starring role from Uni.
Now, my team have requested that I do not say ‘we can win this one’ as when I do, we never win (although we only win rarely), but we really could, our only win was vs this team at the start of the season.
First, I had to remind team of how we played vs Stroud before Christmas, as it was really good and it’s been almost month since we played.
I won the toss, yeah first win! And when we started, we started well, keeping the ball, stringing passes together, movement, lots of movement from all. Bill set the tone with the tackling masterclass which blunted the opposition attacks. When Tobias after a fast break down the left, smashed a tomahawk from an acute angle into the far corner, yes 1-0 up, however no-one else touched it and it was outside the D, no goal. But it set the attacking tone.
Another attack, this time from the right, ball pulled back to the p-spot and Shaun sweep in, 1-0 and this one did count. It was Shaun’s 2nd goal of the season and a carbon copy of his first, even down to the opposition.
And when Tobias picked up a loose ball on around our 23 line and start to run, and run and run, straight through the middle, no-one got close to catching him and he simple slotted the ball beyond the keeper, wow, 2-0.
It was a great first half of hockey, attacking we looked like scoring everytime and in defence when Bill’s tackling missed, either Alex, Mr Kim or my-self manged to block and for everything else we had Marcus (thanks for turning out).
Another easy ½ time talk with Jelly Babies, squishes and oranges, keep going, keep doing everything. To our coaches, something must be working as a few times our passing moves looked like our training exercises.
At the start of the 2nd half, Evesham did something different, an aerial from the off, which was surprising to all. From then Evesham picked up and started to string a few passes together and we had to go more defensive, and all the team responded by defended in depth and we still looked dangerous on the break. As the half continued, we built up more pressure and after multiple shots and saves on Evesham goal, Raoul slotted home the 3rd, 3-0. Alex’s moment came shortly after a promising break by Evesham was abruptly stopped, yeah we won’t dwell on that. However, a nice bit of skill from Fin, slotted home the 4th and happy days. We missed out the clean sheet, by a short corner that was taken from the wrong place, we stopped, Evesham stopped well all looked at the ump, who shrugged and said no whistle and Evesham banged in an uncontested shot. I can hear all the senior players, especially Mr Kim shouting ‘play to the whistle’.
It was a great game by all, and we really enjoyed getting back to playing and whilst we all had our parts to play, the unmentioned, so far, mid-field, Tall Tom, Ollie, Michiel, Shaun, Peter and Toby all put in a great shift.
Let’s see if we can keep results positive for next week, although we lost to Hereford 2 (next week’s game) is was a close game, so you never know.
MOM: Bill – nothing got past him, tackling masterclass
Honourable mentions: Tobias – that run and goal, Toby – fantastic debut, Ethan – excellent attacking support.
DOD: Alex – Well has to be for a yellow card,
I have introduced a new feature for DOD, award winners will now be required to provide an answer to the question “In my defence…”
