Back to hockey at Brockworth beach on a cold January morning. With a bit of confusion about the start time, we all eventually arrived and were rearing to go.
Excellent start from Lansdown with an early very loopy goal from Nagyda taking us up to 1-0 within the first five minutes. Nothing stopping us now, except the opposition. Back to back short corners and two lovely strikes from the top of the D took the score away from us to 1-2. A great clearance from keeper Laura resulted in a lifted ball right into my shoulder (not my face luckily as everyone seemed to think). One more sneaky break from the opposition dragged the score line even further away. 1-3 at half time.
Half time team talk from assistant coach Char West with some words of wisdom but no haribo today. Instead, Bea was running late for the game as she needed to stop for Percy Pigs. So worth it.
Back to hockey for the second half.
The hockey ball just didn’t stay on the floor with several near miss head shots but amazing mid air pick ups. The defensive team held strong but Laura’s stick handle save secured her the new champagne moment.
Some amazing dribbling up the sideline and several good chances at goal. After Neve had a battle with the keeper, we finally heard the sound of the backboard and there were celebrations all round. 2-3. In quick succession India wanted to have a go at glory with a sneaky slip past the keepers legs. 3-3.
The opposition weren’t happy with the draw so turned the ball over quickly and an impressive strike gave them the lead they were after. And then another goal for good measure.
Final score 3-5. Excellent play from Lansdown and a very proud captain.
MOM – Nagyda for amazing skill and standing her ground
Lionel – Bea for carrying the ball all the way round the pitch and even having a go at goal.
Champagne moment – keeper Laura saving a strike with the handle of her stick.
