Match Report: Hereford 1- 2 Lansdown
The prospect of Hereford away in January is usually to be endured rather than enjoyed.
Whilst Storm Eowyn batters much of the UK, Hereford, usually the coldest and windiest hockey pitch on the face of the earth, was instead basked in sunshine.
After withstanding some early pressure, and acclimatising to a pitch that played like a bobbly ice-rink, Lansdown had the ball in the goal after an aerial in to the D, only for the umpires to deliberate and reverse their initial award of a goal. Lansdown overcame this early setback to take the lead shortly after, thanks to a well delivered ball from Kedgey which Storey deftly deflected past the keeper.
Hereford equalised later in the first half, with a low deflection. Debatable as to whether the Hereford forward actually touched the ball, but without our usual cameras we’ll never know.
As the match went on, with the result of the game in the balance, it became an increasingly physical affair. The umpires repeatedly put their hands in their pocket, but kept forgetting to pull out any cards.
Luke restored Lansdown’s lead midway through the second half with finely finished reverse stick shot.
Demonstrating considerable resilience, Lansdown withstood numerous waves of Hereford attacks to see out the game for a valuable 3-points, nicely setting up next week’s top of the table clash with City of Bath.
