Lansdown 4s vs Shipton Oliffe 1s:
The ladies 4s started a cold crisp morning facing Shipton Oliffe at Bournside in a must win game.
The team did a great warm up and faced a bit of confusion as most of Shiptons team hadn’t appeared until right before the start.
Lansdown started with some early pressure and plenty of attacks. With the low sun in our eyes and the general state of the pitch we played a game of find the lines. The Shipton umpire kindly helped us out a few times.
Despite our early pressure Shipton scored the first goal. Lansdown continued to pile on the pressure but couldn’t find the back of the goal. We went into half time a goal behind.
In the second half, fuelled by Percy Pigs (thanks Bea), it seemed like we had endless chances in their D. We played some nice hockey and did get a lot of attacking short corner practice but we were kept at bay. We defended a few too but kept the ball out with some great clearances from Tegan.
We thought we’d scored so many times (I may have even cheered prematurely) but somehow despite several goal mouth scrambles we could not get that goal! Credit to our mids and forwards for never giving up!
A slight lapse in concentration and a break from Shipton saw them go 2-0 ahead.
Lansdown ladies 4s continued to try and get their way back into the game. Out of nowhere Vicky from left back made a great run from the defensive D all the way into our attacking D to have a shot. It was a beautiful moment and we were once again unlucky not to score.
The whole team put in such a shift all game and it could have gone either way.
There were so many names in the mix for MOM and Lionel which shows how well everyone played with excellent individual skill and a great team performance.
MOM this week went to Vicky and Tegan. Great play from Vicky who was everywhere in defence today and made so many tackles. Amazing play from Tegan who stepped up to play her first 4s game in goal. She played with so much confidence and composure.
Lionel went to Darcey and Bea for some amazing play, great ball distribution and skill up the sidelines.
Our champagne moment goes to the amazing Vicky for her phenomenal run all the way up the pitch from defence to have a shot on goal. 🥳
