M4 vs Hereford 2 Home Lost 0-4
MOM: Toby
DOD: Mr Kim
This week … a good showing.
It was a lovely sunny winter’s afternoon, a little chilly, but we were all pleased to be playing at all. Thanks to Mr Hockey for sorting out the enforced change of venue.
Earlier in the season we narrowly lost to Hereford by a single goal, there league position hinted that they may have strengthened since then. Saying that, the instruction to team was to do what we did last week, pass and move, quickly.
From the off it was clear that we would be defending more this week, as early Hereford pressure kept us on our heels. It was not however a back’s to the wall, or ‘park the bus’ effort. We built pressure and for 10 minutes kept the ball in the Hereford half probing but only creating ½ chances or finding some experience defenders stick and occasionally the keeper. A really worked short from Hereford put the visitors ahead,0-1 deep into the first half. And whilst we rued not taking our changes at the other end, Hereford scored again. 0-2. And that was ½ time.
Half-time sweets, Jelly Baby’s, Tangfastics and oranges. So, it was clear that the team was not clicking, we were off the pace, not much but enough, so heads up and let’s get more of ball to apply pressure. Mr Kim then as a senior player, tried to rev us more by saying we can win.
It was similar in ½ half although good running from the forwards who battled well, Raoul leading the charge with a determined battling vs all the Hereford defenders, Tobias and Ethan were full of running and pace and we created chances and forced several short corners. A bit more composure in the D and we could have easily put a few goals in, but as we missed a chances Hereford did not and scored 2 more to finish.
The last goal deserves a mention, Mr Kim from his fluffed 16 clearance, recovered the ball, then tried the same pass again wide left, so slowly however the Hereford attacker had time to move to intercept and at great speed bore down on Alex and scored with the last hit of the game.
Best quote of the day from Adrain
“Never mind Mike, at least your other 16’s this game where OK”, which Mike responded “Yeah mate, that’s because Glynn was centre back & was doing all the 16s” – Classic
MOM: Toby – Excellent, looks completely at home already.
Honourable mentions: Justine – bandana style, Raoul – battling forward
DOD: Mr Kim – duly deserved this week, often awarded in default this week he earned it.
I have introduced a new feature for DOD, award winners will now be required to provide an answer to the question “In my defence…”
So Mr Kim…..
