Lansdown 4s vs Colwall & Malvern 1s: written by the amazing Laura Cooper
The ladies 4s today had a match against Colwall and Malvern 1 at costa del Brockworth. With a slightly changed team than usual, and the previous game running behind, the team warm up was the usual talk of the weather, changing rooms and my intention to not kick the ball as I wasnt in my usual goal keeping role! (Which I didn’t you’ll be pleased to note!).
Lansdown started well with some impressive link ups on the right from Darcey, Neve and Lillia who with some slick work from Liz was unlucky not to pinch an early goal. In Rach’s words of “We look quite good today” ringing in my ears we decided to make things slightly harder on ourselves and conceded an early short corner.
With our face masks finally fitting we readied ourselves only for a lovely strike from Colwall to pass over my head and miss Sophia’s keeper pad, unluckily we saw ourselves 1-0 down.
But continue as we might, Colwall piled on the pressure and the squad found ourselves in our own D relentlessly with some epic defending from Katie, Smithy, Rachel and Rosie, who worked hard for the entire match with no subs available. Beth used her silky skills several times on the wing to hunt out Lillia and Liz up front but Colwall’s wall of defender’s was too organised to keep us out.
A second goal from Colwall and an unlucky sneak through the gap into goal saw the L4s ready for a half time rest and Rachel only fall on the floor once!
After a panic that we had no half time sweets we went back out there and pressed hard again. It was clear that Colwall had several set plays but Lansdown kept their fast breaks at bay long into the second half.
We had some lovely passing and skillful play which saw several fast breaks from a tiring Lansdown which were kept at bay from adding to our scoresheet. A lucky additional Colwall goal which bounced up and over Sofia saw the score line turn to 3-0.
A tired Lansdown were glad to hear the final whistle but disappointed we hadn’t got onto the scoresheet this week. We head to Leominster next week in the hope of making a last minute dash from the bottom of the table and keeping our heads up through this challenging season.
Player of the match was closely contested between Rosie and Smithy with Rosie taking the accolade.
Lionie went to Neve this week for covering midfield and defensive positions throughout the match.
Champagne moment should go to Rachel for forgetting the Haribo (I made that up!).
