M4 vs Cirencester 4 Won 2-1
MOM: Harry & Graham
DOD: The lurgy
Summary: …oops we did it again and won (anyone picturing any of the M4’s in a skin-tight PVC red catsuit is just wrong, so wrong!)
This week, we had a few players not available and had on early Saturday morning just 11, including Alex M who slipped off the pads to make up outfield players. Now last time Alex played outfield he ran over a small child, very funny and got a green (harsh). And we were joined by Mike all the way from the 2s. Then the lurgy took Will B and not one but two players, Phil ‘new stick’ Sidey and Dave ‘carrying injury’ answered the plea so in the end we rocked up with 12 players to the late push-back at Cirencester 4.
I had the pleasure to watch most of the ladies 6 game beforehand and thoroughly enjoyed the hockey and 3-2 win, inspiration?
Now Cirencester 4 were 2nd in the table and beat us 7-1 earlier in the season, so I was realistic in what we can achieve, basically less goals conceded then last time. However the team, all season have not listened to thing I’ve said and started playing good hockey, possession, quick passing, and movement etc. and when Raoul swept in from a cross from Harry, being 1-0 up didn’t look against the play, we had played well and deserved to be up. Cirencester were at a loss to how this has happened, then when at the end of an attack Justin, from an ever decreasing angle on the right, launched a rocket of a shot, 2-0 wow. I shouldn’t be surprised the 4s always play good hockey and now we are scoring goals we are getting results. That’s not to say it was all us attacking, during a scrambled, pin-pong exchange with blocks, saves, poor clearances etc. the whistle went and we heard short or flick from the umpire. Flick given. Phil gathered for a team talk and I watched Graham saved the flick high to his right! Still 0-2 up and ½ time arrived.
Right, peach rings, jelly babies and oranges gave us some more go, but again easy ½ time talk keep going.
Cirencester started off strong, adding many short corners, the defence Mr Kim, Phil, Alex and me, defended well and kept all these from getting clear shots and Graham dealt with everything else.
The mid-field Mike and Harry played really well in the centre (Harry will end up in the M2’s very soon I’m sure) and Jonathan, Michiel and Dave (manged to play most of the match) kept the wings solid. Cirencester did manage to convert one chance, but we did limit and blunt their attacks, while playing on the break and creating chances, a 3rd goal was not out of the question. When time ran out, we had registered our 4th win of the season, that’s a new high for the M4’s.
Praise from Mike “you guys are better than I expected”, welcome back anytime Mike!
Please note that no small children were harmed during the playing of this game.
