The last game of the season with nothing to lose we had high hopes of getting a singular point and maybe even a win. First push back and right goal selection started us off strong and ready for a good battle.
After the first whistle, we pushed up the pitch as a team and had a very early chance of goal. Good goalkeeping from the opposition but we weren’t done yet. After constant pressure on the opposition, we got a sneaky break and a clear shot on the goal. Save from the keeper. Lilia wanted to have a go so position herself right in front of the goal keeper and got a lovely touch on the ball and slipped it through the keepers legs on her reverse and hit the backboard. We celebrated like we’d won the league.
Very even play, back and forth through the middle and some unfortunate goals from the opposition. Amazing diving saves from Laura. Apparently defenders aren’t allowed to kick the ball so I ended up giving away about three short corners. They weren’t getting past our defence. Until they did.
2-3 at half time. Haribos and words of wisdom from Ellie. Heading into the second half ready to keep fighting for that point (maybe even three).
The second half went off with a bang and all of us went in with our heads held high ready to play our best. Think there was a Newent goal. As we tried to navigate our way around the faint lined pitch we had a go at trying to find the attacking D to have a shot at goal. Sarah did just that and took the score up to 3-4.
Newent had a break towards goal with a very good chance but our defence stepped into action. A five minute tackle from yours truly kept the scoreline at bay even though the ball managed to hit three people’s foot, a forearm and a shin.
Amazing play from all 16 players this week.
MOM went to Neve who had an absolute stormer of a game (even if she didn’t agree).
Lionel went to Rosie who came out of retirement to join us for the last game and smashed it.
Champagne moment went to the experienced Caz who decided to run away from her responsibilities as centre back and have a go at centre forward.
Well played everyone!
