M4 vs Bourton & Sherborne Dev M2
MOM: Alex M
DOD: Mark V
This week…starting over again!
First league game for the M4 after the by-week and hoping to get back into the style of playing that was successful last season. Hmmm I’ll come back to that.
You never know when we play a dev team who will turn up, especially as the previous match involved Bourton’s M1. They turned up with 9 (with a few M1 players) so Shane and Jonathan volunteered to play for the opp.
It wasn’t an issue as the squad was full, including 2 full senior debuts, young Tom B and Joe P. Welcome to the M4’s!
So, on this blustery day how did we do. It was clear that we were a bit rusty, although lots of the squad have been to training this was the first time playing together and it showed, lot’s of effort all round, but not quite match sharp. The 1st quarter was good in patches, then we started to remember the training and how to pass and it looked from the back, neat and tidy hockey. A move down the right, Fin crossed, and Tobias scored the first goal of the season, nicking off the stick of Mr Kim who I think was lost as I have no idea what he was doing that far up the field. Another first was an aerial by me, that took everyone including D.Phil (umpire) by surprise but worked OK, subsequent attempts should not be dwelt on. Ethan scored the second goal from an Ollie assist. So, 2-0 up at ½ time, not bad.
This week’s sweets (and as we did a bulk order every week’s sweets were sponsored by Alex M) Jelly Babies & oranges. Just emphasised to the team need to sharpen up getting to the ball, ball speed and all that jazz.
2nd half on the whole was a more defensive play, we only occasionally put together the passing to threaten the goal, and it was Bourton who scored a well taken short and then in the final few minutes after a goal mouth melee Bourton were awarded a PF, one of the M1 players took it and Alex got a stick but couldn’t keep it out.
MOM: Alex – fantastic game between the posts and official sweet sponsor of the M4s
Honourable mentions: Mark V – defending (at least in the first half) goal line clearance, Tom B – great game on senior debut, Ethan – goals
DOD: Mark V – two footed slide tackle (slipped OK) & giving away the PF
Dis-honourable mentions: Ollie – ball watching
So Mark…..
I’ll claim the shaggy defence for the PF ‘wasn’t me’
