M4 vs Cirencester 5

MOM: Joe

DOD: Shane

This week…better not to dwell!

It was always going to be a tough game as Cirencester 4 had started strongly and turned up with 16 including some players from higher teams this week (we learnt as the game went on).   But we had a strong ‘mature’ defensive line up that included a guest appearance from Pete H and some quick youngsters, so you never know.

Due to an accident in Cirencester that caused traffic chaos, we started with 9 and the rest arrived in drips & drabs, so by the time the team was at full strength we were already 3-0 nil down.  It was going to be a long day at the office.  We changed the formation to 4-5-1, which meant Raoul lead the front line, battling and offering our only attacking focus, which did work, support from Tobias, Tom and Ethan running from mid-field, meant that we had two chances that just shaved the post.  Tobias took rocket to the shin, and we all heard the impact even through the shin pad and he limped off. But at half-time it was I think 4-0.

As always, great effort and when we strung 3 passes together showed that we could offer a potent goal threat.  Oranges and sweets revived our energy, but not much all the mid-fielders Shaun, Ethan Jonathan, Jo and my-self spent all lot of the time chasing Cirencester’s players and we flagged some-what with the defensive line making many last-ditch tackles by both fair and foul means!

Our moment came in in the last 5 minutes when Cirencester already 8-0 up probably stepped back and we, get this passed with pace and purpose and forced a short right at the end of the game.  Everyone went up and although the initial shot was saved, we retained possession and had several other shots blocked/saved before Tom swept in from close range.  After a bit of conferring the Umpires awarded the goal and it finished 8-1.

Tough game against a good team.

MOM:  Joe – pure effort

Honourable mentions: Tom – goal, Bill – tackles and Shaun – running

DOD: Shane – leaving phone, keys and change of kit by the side of the pitch after the game had finished, it’s bad enough pickup up after teenagers but not pensioners as well.

Dis-honourable mentions:  Pete – even by his standards late and turned up at the wrong pitch.

So Shane…..

To be fair he did the social media for us this week!
