After surviving a few DotD nominations in the last weeks, my time for a match report has finally come.

Despite Gloucestershire Highways’ best efforts, both squads arrived with plenty of time for a warm up. The warm-up was intense as ever, and it was here I received my first DotD nomination, for nearly killing Whitey with a reverse hit (sorry).
Warm-up finished, we went in for a standard pre-match huddle, where I received my next DotD nomination, asking everyone to not hit my new stick. Naturally this led to mine receiving a lot of love from everyone else’s.

Anyway, after all that we finally lined up and the game was afoot.
We started brightly, and seemed to remember that we can actually play nice hockey. And yet, as has been a common theme this season, we fell behind. 1-0 Cheltenham.
Rob then decided he would do something harder than scoring, and hit both the post and crossbar in the same shot (cheers Rob). But no fear, because Harry managed to pull a goal back before the break, although you wouldn’t have known because he refused to celebrate, leading the bench to think he’d missed from about 2 yards out. (1-1).

The half time whistle went, and Loz (dressed in a fleece, trousers and uggs) told us all how warm she was, as we stood shivering.

The second half resumed, and not much really happened, and that was it…

Kidding, of course. Cheltenham got a short, and somehow it went in. (2-1) Through my legs I think? (Really not having a great day..)
But then, only a few minutes later, it managed to get worse. Under very little pressure, (here comes another DotD nomination, and the nail in the coffin I fear) I leaned on my footballing ability, and decided to change sport to football, and do a rabona/cruyff turn (Nick Woltemade style for those football fans) into our goal (3-1).

Heads up was the message, and indeed they went up. Henry finished off a lovely team move to peg one back (3-2). Before Sam C (on debut) fired a wonderful drag flick into the top corner (3-3).

Noah then tried to take a chunk out of the post with his stick.

A Cheltenham player got a yellow for…something.

But the boys couldn’t quite make the man advantage count, as Rob decided he’d miss the ball by about 3 feet when lining up for a shot (cheers Rob, again) and the game ended 3-3. A good point against top of the league.

A game of football then ensued between Dave White and his son (I wasn’t invited, despite displaying my best skills earlier), and Dave proceeded to boot his son’s ball over the fence, whilst showing no remorse at all.

Standard jacket potato consumed, we all headed back out to fight the traffic.

MOTM – three way tie between Sam C (excellent drag-flick on debut), Simon H (did he stop running?) and Noah H (another solid game, playing some brilliant hockey)

DOTD – Me. Shock.
