M4 vs Ross-on-Wye
MOM: Alex & Olli
DOD: Adam
This week…back to winning ways!
Ross away is always a keenly fought contest i.e. a battle and this game was no exception. After working out the extra complexities of selection and low numbers due to half term, some star appearances in the team this week, Barney (it’s a team rule M4 must have more than one Vacher) David Lu in his one appearance per season and Mahesh.
So again, we started with less than 11, this week it was 10, it’s getting to be a habit, but this week we didn’t go 3-0 down and actually played hockey, you know passing and all that and after remembering that this is team with the defender who sends up aerials and working out how to defend started well. Even scoring first, some excellent team play lead to David shot being snaffled on the rebound by Raoul, this looked good! The 5 minutes later David Lu, who was having a storming game scored assisted by Barney, 0-2 up! And we battled creating chances and defending well to keep it at that score.
Half-time, sweets & oranges and message to keep going as we were playing brilliantly and need to set the tempo and tone in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half to make sure we didn’t lose the advantage.
Ross started the 2nd half with attacking purpose, but the back line of Mr Kim, Mahesh, Michael & Me, repelled the attacks aided by the mid-fielders disrupting the feeds into the attackers. It came at a cost tho’, several players post-game had impressive scrapes and bruises which we pondered making into a WI style calendar for club funds? Ross did take one opportunity to get a goal back and several good stops from short corners, one by me in particular kept the score down to 1-2. Up front we were creating chances on the break but couldn’t find another goal.
We are getting back to some of the play from last year and it’s getting results! And it’s always good that when players from other teams join us and are surprised the type of hockey and how well we play!
MOM: Alex – excellent saves & Ollie – great battling
Honourable mentions: Mr Kim – solid, Mark – shot stop & Shaun – grit in the midfield
DOD: Adam – arranging lifts for Fin with Michael then forgetting to tell either Fin or Michael making both late!
Dis-honourable mentions: Mr Kim – no reason we just pick on him.
