M4 vs Newent 3
Lost 0-3
MOM: Tom P
DOD: Jonathan
This week…patchy!
Slight headache this week, great availability across all teams, meant that we started the match with 15! And that was after 2 drop-outs but gaining Matt G. We did however have the full senior debut of young Joey S!
It got so complicated in sub rotation I had to draw sub flow diagrams to make sure we all had pitch time, but you know the saying best laid plans often go astray….
So, what did we expected, Newent have either not been able to field a team or produced good results and as they turned up it was going to be another hard game. So standard team talk, pass the ball, move and all that jazz, but we didn’t click that’s not to say we didn’t create chances, Tobias or ‘Billy the Whizz’ zoomed up the pitch and produced some ambitious tomahawk shots that sailed over the bar. Love the confidence but why do all younger players love reverse stick! I did point out the other way to hold a stick to Tobias but got a suitably teenage response.
…but the team effort and Tom P, who has learnt some competitive and combative sayings from the 1’s as well as some fine keeping kept the score to 0-0.
Oranges, tangfastics and jelly babies at half time, a quick review of the sub rotation, as even though I explained it several times it still confused one or two.
I thought first team to score would take the win, and Newent scored their first from a goal mouth scramble, heads did dip and then Jonathan’s hamstring went, Mr Kim took a rocket to the ankle, Glynn took a ball to the mid-riff – decent bruise and suddenly a sub flows were gone and we lost shape. As a result, the next |Newent goal was lovely quick 1-2 passes straight down the middle and well taken goal. The final Newent goal was another goal mouth scramble.
At the end we all knew we can and have played better.
Pie and chips helped to restore our mood.
MOM: Tom P – Excellent saves
Honourable mentions: Matt C – solid & Tobias – tomahawk shooting ambition
DOD: Jonathan – wiping out a small child & a slightly mis-directed pass across the middle to the opp (although we all were guiltyof poor passing)
