M4 vs Lansdown M3

Loss 2-7

MOM: Raoul & Ollie

DOD: Tom & Tobias

This week…patchy in places, good generally occasionally very good.

The sun was seen on Saturday, a rare sight this month and genuine warmth was felt on our backs as we warmed up – I say warmed up it’s more a catch up on how the week has gone.  And our hope of some inter-club sweetness on Valentine’s day (not much hope tho’) was short lived as the M3 scored 4 well taken goals unanswered goals in the first half.  This was a repeat score of the first match in the season.  And we got to play at Deans Close this week, although not on the posh pitch but did have shiny new Kookaburra match balls from The Stick Club, carefully   labelled but now missing, slightly miffed!

Our highlights in the first half; we defended well as a team, Matt G giving in-sights on how the 3’s would line up and approach, which we all subsequently forgot as soon as the match started.  Oh, we started with only 10 on the pitch, Shaun noted that Will wasn’t on the pitch, so in stepped Ollie who was most ready on the sidelines.  And on occasions when we did that pass ‘n’ move quickly thing that has been seen previous games we created chances; Ollie only just missed with deflected shot.

So ½ time team talk, reminded team about how we are trying to play, not so high press let the 3s play all by themselves in their ½ half.  But great effort so far.

So M3’s scored 3 more goals, but by far we scored the best and cheekiest goals.  Best goal was our first by Raoul when he arrived 1-on-1 with Marcus at the top of the D and calmy lobbed the keeper, fantastic.  Then Justin who chased down a ball that was running over the backline and someone in the M3 shouted ‘leave it’ managed to score from an impossible angle sneaking behind the keeper much to the surprise of Marcus.  Justin did blot his record by getting only the 2nd green card for the team this season, much to his surprise as I forgot to relay to team umpires were going to insist on 5 from free hits in the ½ half and it was a result of repeat offenses etc.

So, overall a brilliant effort from the team against the top of table in the sunshine and then pie and chips and a bit of the rugby in the club.  Not a bad day.  Young Tom showed skill and determination by repeating beating opponents then instead of a pass, showed us how he beat everyone again – hence the Gandolf nomination!

MOM: Shared between Raoul for the audacious goal & Ollie again for being everywhere!

Honourable mentions: Matt C – great defending and attacking runs.

DOD: Tom call me ‘Gandolf’ & Tobias ‘Where are you’

Dis-honourable mentions: Alex – letting in 7!,   Justin for only the 2nd card for team this season & Will who turned up 30 minutes late then blamed his Mum.
