Lansdown M2s 4-2 Wotton-under-edge M3s
An early morning pushback on a cold Saturday morning got off to a good start when Henry realised he’d forgotten his shirt. Never fear! DPhil – ever the gent – donated his one and only shirt to Henry and then DPhil played in Tom Pinless’s sister’s shirt (thank you for the loan Sophia!). “That’s DotD sewn up for Henry” I thought to myself.
Lansdown started the match on the front foot, pressing Wotton high up the pitch and creating a lot of dangerous situations. Wotton were limited to crash balls and had a couple of breakaway opportunities which were well smothered by Tom Pinless in goal. Lansdown’s pressure paid off midway through the first half and Sam VV scored from the edge of the area with Henry coming in for the deflection. Henry (channelling Honest Dave’s shirt) owned up to not getting a touch. Lansdown still had time to miss a couple of gilt-edged chances before taking a 2-0 lead with a Leo Vorster drag flick which the Wotton post man did well to get his head out the way of! Leo wasn’t done having fun at the top of the D and scored another ferocious flick to send Lansdown 3-0 up at half time.
Lansdown eased off a little in the second half and a Wotton break ended in a penalty corner which they converted with a strong strike right in the corner. 3-1. Wotton were growing into the match and so when Leo finished off a Lansdown counter with a reverse to send us 4-1 up we could all feel a little more secure. So secure that we conceded a second penalty corner, a well worked routine by Wotton. Lansdown still had time to create some good opportunities but the match ended 4-2 to Lansdown.
MotM: Leo for a high quality hattrick.
DotD: Henry turned up without a shirt and yet somehow Luke – not even in the squad – received DotD for getting so excited on the sideline that my voice broke while offering words of encouragement and wisdom. Served me right for coming to watch I guess. Humph.
