M4 vs Gloucester M4

Loss 0-1

MOM: Alex

DOD: The late boys Alex & Ollie

This week…er slight case of deja vu ( i.e. a slightly disappointing loss).

Another week and a ‘winable’ game where we can get a result, now some may have noticed that each time I state this we lose, hence why I have been banned from stating it.

An early start in Gloucester for what we knew would be a close game, the last few games between us have been either draws or decided by one goal.  Team was good, lost a few last, minute Shaun claiming man-flu and Bill still broken from the last game he played for us, did however get Joey, so 12 in all.  And Barney returned for a starting role, back from deepest darkest Surrey.

Quick team talk, pass, move, mark, keep the ball, pass and pass again.

We started well, doing the pass thingy and creating space and chances, all the forwards Justine, Raoul and Ethan had shots that keep had to save  As a team we were playing the better hockey, however Gloucester has some speedy youngsters and threatened with a more direct but effective playing style that resulted in shots that Alex used as his warm up.

½ time, so mentioned passing, moving and marking but we all were looking for the goal, and the early mist had burnt off and it was a glorious day now, so tails up and re-fuelled off we went again.

Gloucester then scored about 5 minutes into the half, which somewhat spoiled the day.  Again we had patches of good play, got 5-6 short corners and shots were saved or just wide!  At the other end, Pete H owned up to foot on the line at a PC (very sporting!) and Alex earnt his MoM by saving the flick!!  Alex had also saved with his face and another double save sweeping the ball away with his stick full length on the floor.

And that one goal was the only one and another disappointed loss when we could have got a result if only…….

An admin error by Gloucester meant that we had no tea’s, but we did sit in the sunshine with a beer as Ollie proved that it was ClubBuzz fault he was late and we told tall tales of goals that were nearly or just wide etc., not a bad afternoon with a great bunch of fella’s.

…and currently favourite trick is get ChatGBT to create posters based on teammates perceived strengths, some very funny pictures of Barney, Mr ‘Chopper’ Kim and Alex as multi-armed goal keeping demi-god!

MOM: Alex – good saves which kept us in the game.

Honourable mentions: Matt – excellent runs from defence, Joe – midfield running & Joey putting a good shift in

DOD: The late boys Alex & Ollie, to be fair Alex was in the goal by the time game started no warm-up and Ollie’s app did say pb 10:30, but both did get called to find out status.

Dis-honourable mentions: Shaun – succumbing to the man-flu, David Jenkins and Mark Vacher to be honest I forgot why
