M4 vs Ross-on-Wye M2

Loss 0-1

MOM: Alex

DOD: David P

This week…A really good game in the sun.

So, the last game at home (so good teas) a bit of a kuffle with pitches (moved the game to an earlier time) and good availability meant a strong team for a tough match.  We welcomed back Alex who has recovered injury for a last game of the season.  And a star appearance from Ian (M) who lasted until ½ way through the first half before something broke.

Ross who were sitting 3rd in the league apparently were taking it easy but still turned up with full squad and turned up to play.  The instruction to the team, delivered by Shaun included the key words passing and intensity and I think we did these things just not necessarily in the right order (paraphrasing classic comedy quotes).

First thing, we remembered quickly that Ross are the aerial kings, so slightly adjusted how we played, but before Ian went off, he too played an aerial there was a chorus of ‘we don’t do that in the 4s’.  Actually, it has been known, myself & Raoul remember our first ariels fondly.

Tobias was running with real intent and feeding the forwards with crosses to the back posts and Justin and Will just missed out on deflections for the goal.  Will had several opportunities in the second ½ half with shots being blocked.  We did make it hard for ourselves – well I did, as I kept passing to the opp with amazing accuracy and ball pace!  So, when the 1st half ended, how it was it was still 0-0 was encouraging.  And this was mainly down to Alex who was having and excellent game, he was particular pleased with a triple save, foot then stick then hand.  But he kept doing saves with the help of the defence, Pete with a fantastic clearance from a short corner.  Mr Kim was chopping away and Matt was doing excellent attacking runs up the right.  Shaun and David did a stirling job in the middle and Joey is a real talent on the left.

In the last 5 minutes, Ross had a series of shorts and we got to 5 successfully defended – one of our supporters then predicted that Ross would score and that’s what happened a scrambled attack that we didn’t quite clear!

So not, the result we wanted and so nearly a result on the last game, but a good effort as always to end the season.  But we did get pies, I’m going miss them!

We did well again this season finished 7th, had 37 players turn out for us, scored 38, conceded some.  Played some really good hockey (in patches) and generally good hockey all year and had a blast.

MOM: Alex – smashing GK duties

Honourable mentions: Tobias – Attacking threat

DOD: David P – The Bully incident – no more said!

Dis-honourable mentions: Tobias – going ouch to loudly apparently, Mark – passing to the opp, Mr Kim – tactical voting by the Vacher clan, David – urm didn’t make a note, sorry.
